But first, per tradition, a helping hand for any newcomer to the concept as a whole... What's a Halloween Cameo Caper?
The Cameo Caper is a, by now, old annuarly tradition (2016 marks the 10th anniversary if the event!) where artists and authors alike get together, trying to get a multi-webcomic (no kind, style or hosts bared) cameo caper running through the month of October (though starting before and taking it ways beyond have become more the norm than the exception), expected to culminate on Halloween Eve, October the 31st where hopefully all participating characters will get together for one large Halloween Webcomic Party!
The original basic concept thought up back in 2005 was generally the idea that the participants, at the date of Halloween (or the day closest to, taking updates schedules into accounting), the particpating artists post a strip (canon, none-canon, filler etc.) on their site or in an appropiate thread here, in the Dragonboard forum, showing their characters and as many characters from other comics as possible, having fun and celebrating the Halloween in the chosen setting.
That concept is still solid... thats basically what you agree to when you sign up! One strip at the day of Halloween with as many cameos as possible! No more, no less...
BUT... nothing prevents, and nothing HAS so far prevented, any and all participant from creating whole storylines centered around the event, storylines that sometimes start way before and go way beyond the month of October and Halloween Eve.
Furthermore there's nothing to prevent the participating webcomics from joining up and forming crossovers with each other for the sake of the event, exactly like it has been done before... actually, its recommended, but by no means a demand
The previous years have been varied but usually great experiences for the participants, and we hope to see many old and hopefully quite a few faces in the 2016 Cameo Caper, the year that marks the 10th anniversary of the event!
But first, before anyone signs up for anything... we need to decide where to host the Caper of 2016!?
In 2006 the first year the Caper went to the town of Shelterville in the old Wild West, 2007 went to Disneyland orbiting a faraway planet in the near future, in 2008 a a zombie-filled mall was throughoutly thrashed, 2009 gave hauntings of castle of Overlook a bad reputation and 2010 gave the crew and passengers of the spaceship NCS Nostromummy a few last days of their life to remember, in 2011 Time finally caught up with the secluded and Dinosaur filled Valley in the Hillsfar Mountains.
2012 brought murder to the interdimensional nexus of Tyrion, in2013 the Sugar Rush brought characters and War to Candyland. Characters travelled to Kokotomo, the mysterious Fantasy Island in 2015, and in 2016 we visited the webcomic of Hey Fox! for a housewarming party!
Which place shall know the dubious "honor" of hosting this year's Caper?
The following is a list of hithero suggested places to hold the Caper which didn't make it the previous years:
20's Chicago
Ancient China
CameoComic / The Dragonboard
Earth's Core
The Middle Ages
Battle of the Bands Setting
In a Pyramid / Ancient Egypt
Under the Sea/ R'lyeh
The Northpole / Antarctic
Pirate Bay
Comic Convention
Ponyland
Abandoned Summer Camp
The Net
Ancient Greece
Monster Island
At this point, feel free to cast your preliminary votes for any and all of the above suggested themes, and feel free to come up with any imaginable idea that can suggest a fantastic and interesting ideal setting where to host the Cameo Caper of 2016!
This thread is for collecting those suggestions as well as any discussions, and you don't have to even think about signing up for the Cameo Caper just yet, just feel free to take part in choosing the place!
The discussion will come to an end at the 1st of May, after which point a poll will be set up, a poll featuring the 10 hottest topics of the thread for everyone to vote on to get the final result...
When the setting has been chosen, a more detailed campaign for the exact location will be provided... so therefore DO come up with various ideas and themes for the setting all while suggesting and voting... everything helps to make the setting as memorable as the previous ones!
Also, again, no matter if you plan on participating or not, you are welcome to give your 5 cents with regards to ideas for the place, setting and everything else... its appreciated!
Lets hear your thoughts!
Edit:
It's voting time!
The list of suggestions has been pruned, some of the old suggestions taken out and the ones people have discussed the most on this board carried on to the finals... the voting can commence!
As always, anyone associated on this forum can cast their vote, no matter if they plan on participating in the event or not, and the more who give their votes, the better!
In addition it will also be possible to farvote from various other webcomics forums (where I will try to spread the the legend of the Capers and ask for people's participation in choosing the event, hopefully luring in a few participators along the way... and I could use help with this!) as well as through mail to yours sincerely if you don't want to sign up to any forums
Sign-up's for the Caper CAN be done at this point, but please don't do so unless you are 100% sure you can participate no matter the setting chosen!
Poll will close at the 1st of July, giving people roughly a couple of months to contemplate their involvement, signing up and start planning before the cha... event starts in earnest.
Lets hear your votes!
