Length and period of the Calender

Post by Hogan »

So, this will be the last thing to settle on before we finally can get to working on the calender itself.

I know the first three options are more or less for show since we can hardly have anything ready for the first of January, but I wanted to add them to keep the big picture.

Currently 15 people have signed up so therefore I've added the option of 2 calenders instead of 1 x 18 month one... we just need a couple more people to sign up, which should be doable.

Let me hear what you think.

I'm going with the 18-month one starting in July.

I think six months is enough time for everyone to make an image for it and at least affords the customer one full calendar year.

Well, I would say February seems a little off for the normal brand of Calenders since most start by January or July and thats where people would buy new ones, actually needing a new calender is another incentive to buy this one.

As for an extra long calender, I would say my vote is for a 12 month, because the longer the more expensive, and people are more willing to pay smallet amount twice than one large amount once (even though the two small amounts together will be more than the one large).

if we can find more artists or some artists will agree to do two images we can do a long 24 month calender and offer it in two formats :
1) July 2011 to June 2013 full calender
2) and two calenders July 2011 to June 2012 and July 2012 to June 2013

Personally I would say it would be smarter to come up with another calender for July 2012 and forth since few will by calenders ahead of time, and after a certain time has passed after the calender started, the sales will normally drop, so in my experience its better to offer new thins within a lesser timespan...

But lets hear what others have to say in this matter :)

at this point I'd say lets aim at having it ready by 2012... if we set up an account to carry and market the product.. we could offer other products with the same art say cups ect.. .. meaning start on the art now offer it on other things so we are raising money and getting the word out till our calendar is ready to post as a whole.. I might want a cup in june..

how about we start now by say every one whom is interested work on art with a winter theme.. snow.. Christmas,, new years.. sledding .. and link here.. the dead line for winter art could be February.. in February the project becomes spring.. . it brakes it up in to chunks with dead lines... having more then one winter page.. makes it so we are not waiting on one person to finish a December page at the last min... some of us (me ) are procrastinators.. next if we get more art then we can use in 12 it opens up the possibility of 18 months 24 months or two different calendars..

18 months seems to be the popular choice.I'll go with that.

Okay, there seems to be a patter emerging, first and foremost it shows that most people agree on the calender starting up with July 2011, and then its just a matter of whether it shall run 12 or 18 months from that point... 18 months seems to be be what most people would like to settle for, so thats probably were we are heading.

We'll keep the poll up for the rest of the year so the last of us can get a chance to cast their vote, then'll we'll begin in earnest at the start of the new year.

Actually, Riley got a good suggestion there... the calender might start in July, which means we should probably have it ready in the shops from the beginning of March (?), but we can, as teasers, have lesser items like cups, shirts etc. featuring cropped images from the calender-art for sale already in the beginning of the year?

Anything that'll help turn a profit for the good cause...

As for submitter, then I guess it will have to be the one who'll set up the store and manage it, the one with the front face of the project... I would volunteer for that but lack the technical knowledge to set up a shop, especially graphical wise, making it inviting... just take a look at my current test-store...

Any suggestions on who and/or how to do this part?
Or, to be more exact, any volunteers?

One thing that hasn't been discussed are the dimensions of the art. What size and file type should it be. I prefer tiff myself.

Just a question...what is the subject matter for the calendar? I've heard seasons mentioned but beyond that I'm not sure what we are looking for exactly?

Good question Lego, thats one of the things left to decide on, and I've just put up a thread dealing with it... now its time to get the final piece of the project down!
