PDF'ing of the Site

To try and get the site updated as well as made more user-friendly, I've with the return to activeness, started on the process of changing all the files on the site to viewable/downloadable PDF-documents. At the same time the various sub-sections will undergo minor changes to take in the new features the files bring with them.

It seemed to be the best way to go, and the people I test-ran it by agreed...

All previous existing html- and zip-files will be removed once the new PDF-file is up.

This is the thread in which I will keep tab on the progress on changing all the site's content, as well as other minor updates I might be making while doing so...

If you experience problems with the new file-layout, or want to let me know whether the change is a good or bad idea, let me know here.

If anyone is still visiting the site after this extended hiatus and read this... thank you for your patient and dedication

The material in the subsection of "Alternate Rules" have now been fully converted into PDF-files.

The new layout of the section is probably how the various sections will generally come to look as I get along with the converting.

In the progress, the Animal Hit/Fumble list for 2nd ED was removed and intergrated into the Fumble and Critical Hit tables.
Using Proficiencies received a minor cosmetic update as did The Way of the Priest.

Hmm... I can see what you mean, and I'm quite sure I didn't good anywhere, having done this so many times before...

... which means that the post somehow is treated as if BBcode was turned off which should be the case...

... which I don't like since it may mean there's something different in these links I have to figure out first...

I'll try and look into it, until then its cut and paste if one want to see the links up front...

Yeah, I know, it was just a cheap coup-out from my side to highlight the url while I worked on finding out why the normal way didn't work... when I get the time hopefully later today.

I needed an option that was a little friendlier than my current layout... that and my host notified me that storing large numbers of ZIP-files were against their policy...
Since more or less everybody has a Reader for PDF installed, or can get it for free, PDF was the option since I in one file can present it for viewing as well as download and/or print on demand... all at the same time.
Furthermore updating of the variuos files will be much easier in the future since it will be just maing the changes the original word-document, PDF & upload it... whereas the latter is a process taking mere seconds as compared to previously where I had to update & zip, then change the html-document, and THEN update...

All in all I decided the PDF'ing was the best option.

Ah! You thought I was doing the site itself and individual pages in PDF?

Don't worry, I love too much to fiddle with the html to ever do that, but the individual documents for show and download... thats where PDF comes to its right!

... now started on converting the "New Artifacts" section!

... and I just found out that the reason the links will not show here is because of the ( ) brackets in the filename...

Gives one food for thought.

Yeah, its the only choice if I want the file to be linkable straight from any forums it seems...

I've already changed the file-names in the current section I'm working on, and now it seems to work.

I'll get back to fix the rules section one of these days...

Right! New Artifacts have now all been converted into PDF-files, and I even had time to go back and fix all the files under Alternate Rules, so direct linking to the files are now possible!

Now... which section to do next...?

I don't know why I forgot to note this down, but by now all the compilations of various fun things to be find under The Funny Stuff - section, has now also been PDF'ed for easy reading/downloading

I am so glad that this site is still alive or at least around. I can only wish and hope it becomes archived in the future as so many other sites are slowly being lost.

Rest assured as as long as I am drawing breath, the site will stand. Although I cannot promise updated or additions at any points, the site will never be deleted if I has something to say, that I can promise!

Okay, I can't say what went into me, but I've been going through the New Monsters section and updated each and every monster, be it 2nd or 3rd Edition, to the PDF-version!

I'll say it looks a tad bit better and more useable, but thats just me...

... and if thats not enough, theres a little Easter Egg added to the page too

Oh, since I'm here anyway...

My nephew Brandon plays these types of games & he told me that in one game session he had his character Roz use the Trunk as a weapon (apparently I popped out of it, then hurried back & climbed back inside of it ).

Yes, it's not restricted to webcomics.

Since I was without internet for several days during the Christmas Holidays through which I actually had some time to spare, I made headway in updating my trusty old site and can therefore now proudly tell that all files now have been PDF'et!

Oh, there's still html-pages for some of the creations, concentrated on the compilations of Spells, Prayers and Magical Items (since there are links on the site to each individual items), but all stuff can be found on easy to go PDF-files which woul be pretty easy for me to update.

I wish I had thought of this years ago when the site was updated regulary...

Still, it was actually fun going back and looking at things I uploaded 5+ years ago and, hopefully, making them more accessible... provided anyone still play those editions... other old gaming foyts like me
