The Halloween Cameo Caper 2007

Post by Hogan »

Each year around Halloween it is a tradition that the number of cameos in webcomics all over rises as the eldricth magic of the day and time breaks down boundaries and characters can freely move from comic to comic, dress up and partake in parties of filler-specials all over the universe of webcomics!

As with last year, we at the Webcomic Crossover & Cameo Archive like to take advantage of this great cameo-opportunity by inviting all webcomic-cartoonists and their characters to take part in the Halloween Cameo Caper of the year!

The basic idea was to gather all the characters in a chosen setting, have them arrive and participate in the party of Halloween, having fun together with characters from other strips. It not only gives us the chance to see how the characters from many different strips interact on a social level (though exactly how much socializing there’s possible at a chaotic Halloween party, one can wonder), but also have fun teaming up the various characters and entering converging storylines before it all ends up in the great party at Halloween Night!

Signing for the fun makes in compulsory for each cartoonist to draw at least one strip, featuring his, hers or its (this is webomic business after all!) characters, as well as as many of the other artists’ characters as possible (or at least characters from as many other strips as possible) enjoying the party at the Night of Halloween! The strip must then be posted at the artists site or another easy accessable site at the day of Halloween, either as a filler-strip, canon-strip or something totally exclusive, yet some might just settle for a forum-posted drawing.
For some inventive artists, the occasion might even turn out to take the form as a minor plotline, drawing together with other participating cartoonist... the possibilities are many as last year's caper has shown!

As the Halloween Cameo Caper 2007 takes its turn (it begins when the first strip associated with the Caper is up) the site of http://halloween2007.dragoneers.com will keep track of the various strips, celebrating and immortalizing the event.

The essence of it all is for everybody, cartoonist and readers alike, to have fun! To have a good time, establish some contacts and try ones skill at drawing others characters!

... besides that, it’s also a great way to promote your own comic!

Check out the open invitation and the the description of this year's setting here in the forum.!

Any questions to the rules and guidelines, as well as suggestions for this event, go into this thread!

When does this start up? And are the Crossover Wars expected to be done by then?

And it's basically a get-together? Is there an underlying plot or mystery we are going to have to solve like in Clue?

(looking at the "caper" part)

The Caper will begin when the participants wills it too... some may start early (last time the first plotlines start first in October), som will only take part in the Party on Halloween itself.

No mystery or are initially provided, its up to the participants to work it through and get some intersting events together... take a look at the forum for the 2006 Caper to get an idea on how it proceeds... 8)

As for the Wars, then I won't comment on them, but they should cause no problem...

That sounds cool like that. I think I'll have then just show up and play everything by ear. If I snag a crossover, so be it.

I'd really love to see Florence from Freefall show up... Helix and Sam could come too. I should see if they can come... or if I can at least cameo them :D

Okay fellows, listen up!

As some of you might have noticed, then this years Caper are slowly going down the drain. This is basically the fault of the Crossover Wars which extended way beyond its projected time and sucked up too much strength of time for the various participants, of which many of them also were supposed to be in the Caper...

So, as we are now, about a week from the day of Halloween, almost nobdoy has been left to do some work on the Caper, no planning has been done, no stories devided, no strips have been drawn... oh, all except Josh of Life & Death who recently has have Steve land on a, to us, wellknown planet and place

Now, to salvage a little of the Caper and pawe the way for a new Caper next year, as well as to help Joffio who is all alone out there, faithfully running the Caper all by himself, I propose the following suggestion...

Everybody who originally signed up, or as many as you as possible... if you either a) Quickly wrap up a small story showing how your characters came to the 2007 Caper rendesvouz, or b) jumps directly to the scene, either canon, none-canon or filler.

This will all add to each of you, on the day of Halloween (or the closest day of update) post the strip showing your characters partying out with the characters of the other participating comics.

The chosen setting will be the Inebriated Mallard after Joff's design.

This means the Cameo Caper will be mostly reduced to one single day of Caper-Strips, but at least something will happen!

So... whadda you think?

I could probably cobble something together, my crossover is wrapping up. Since the game I play has such a crappy Halloween quest this year I'll work extra hard on my final 2 comics that I have planned for it and get it over with.

Edit: I think Joff is suggesting present meets future, I can do that too, but Future Alex is rather weird looking, I'll have fun drawing him ^_^.

Nah, I only have present Steve meeting future Steve because:
A, It's quite funny to see Steve trying to out-drink himself, and
B, I'm involving it into my continuity, so it's gotta stay :) The more the merrier though

Yeah, I'm in. I made a little "how they got there" comic last week, I just don't know how interesting this one is going to turn out.

Gah! If only I had seen this three days ago... as various people know, I've just written a 6-week cameo storyline which will encompass (among others), Life and Death, Magical Misfits and The KAMics, but which won't fit with getting a cameo page done within the time-frame (and, unfortunately, I'm too busy right at the moment to manage any more than I'm already doing). My lot won't arrive at Disneyland-in-space for about five weeks yet. Sorry guys!

EDIT: frighteningly intense brainwave: Imma start this story at the end. Anybody mind if my cameo page(s) have Mike blowing up the trunk on them?

*runs off to hurriedly re-organise 14 pages of script*

Right, I've literally cut up and stuck back together my script (took the chance to make it a lot more coherent as well), which has shifted a few things round, but on Wednesday I'll have the End of the Trunk, then on Friday or Saturday (depending on when I get drawing time) I'll do a bunch of cameos, then on Monday I'll go back to the beginning and explain how my lot end up at Dahk-Tuin.

Tink, use my ultimate excuse to get out of any inappropriate questions.. It's the Future! No Consequences! :D

But but but but I'm sure I remember working out that some parts of my story are actually set after Dahk-Tuin (yes, my story is stupidly epic). Besides, non-parallel time-string theory allows for antitemporal causation so things that happen in the future can affect the past (I have firsts from all my metaphysics modules, sorry!)
