Halloween Cameo Caper 2010... where shall it be?
Yes, I know the Cameo Caper of 2009 is still running for some of the participants, but for this annual event it seems more like the norm than the exception... but perhaps we can, in the meantime, take a look at the possibilities for a Halloween Cameo Caper again here in 2010?
Now, continuing the now old tradition, we will once again try and get a multi-webcomic cameo caper running through the month of October, culminating on Halloween Eve where we hopefully will have one major webcomic-party for everybody participating!
Now, to get down to the specifics... the Halloween Cameo Caper is an event centered on the 31th of October where characters from all interested comics (no kind, style or hosts bared) are invited to one hell of a party in a place to be chose... in this thread as a matter of facts. The original concept is that, at the date of Halloween (or the day closest to, taking updates schedules into accounting), the particpating artists post a strip (canon, none-canon, filler etc.) on their site or here in the forum, showing their characters and as many characters from other comics as possible, having fun and celebrating the event at the chosen place!
Thats the concept you sign up for! One strip at the day of Halloween... BUT... nothing prevents any and all participant from creating whole storylines centered around the event, storylines the go way before and beyond the month of October and Halloween Eve, and there are nothing to prevent the participating webcomics from joining up and forming crossovers with each other for the sake of the event, exactly like it has been done before! Actually... its recommended to do so, but not a demand
However, so farthere is not signing up for anything... first we have to decide where to host the Caper of 2010!
The first year the Caper went to the town of Shelterville in the old Wild West, 2007 went Disneyland orbiting a faraway planet in the near future, and in 2008 a a "local" zombie-filled mall was throughoutly thrashed... not to mention the chaos in the old mysteriously haunted castle of Overlook in 2009...
Where shall we go with the Caper this year?
The following is a suggested list of unused options taken from the polls of the previous years for places to host the party.
Ancient China ... and a Pie Fight!
20's Chicago ... and a Pie Fight!
Salvador Daliesk World ... and a Pie Fight!
Earth's Core ... and a Pie Fight!
The Middle Ages ... and a Pie Fight!
Under the Sea ... and a Pie Fight!
A Forumverse ... and a Pie Fight!
The Austrian Alps... and a Pie Fight!
Spaceship... and a Pie Fight!
Anyone else who can think of a fantastic and interesting idea about where to host the Cameo Caper of 2010? This thread is for suggestions and discussions, and you don't have to even think about signing up for the Cameo Caper just yet, just feel free to take part in the discussion!
The discussion will come to an end at the 31th of March, after which a poll will be set up, featuring the 10 most hot topics of the thread for everyone to vote on to get the final result...
When the setting has been chosen, a more detailed campaign for the exact location will be provided... so therefore DO come up with various ideas while suggesting and voting... everything helps to make the setting as memorable as the previous ones!
Also, no matter if you plan on participating or not, you are welcome to give your 5 cents with regards to ideas for the place, setting and everything else... its appreciated!
-----------------------------------------
Edit:
The first deadline has been reached and the poll for voting on this years setting is up!
Remember, anyone can cast their vote, no matter if they plan on participating in the event or not, and the more who give their votes, the better! No sign-ups for the Caper is possible as of yet!
Poll will close at the end of May, giving people enough time to sign up and start planning before the event goes up.
Happy voting!

Well, that would be easier than all the stress & occasional frustration caused by getting caught up in storylines...Hogan wrote:Thats the concept you sign up for! One strip at the day of Halloween
Don't forget, every option was to be followed with "...and a pie fight"Hogan wrote:Where shall we go with the Caper this year?
Ancient China
20's Chicago
Salvador Daliesk World
Earth's Core
The Middle Ages
Under the Sea
Haunted Castle
A Forumverse
The Austrian Alps
Spaceship
How about setting the party in CameoComic? It's not being used for anything else at the moment & the environment can incorporate any number of possible settings.

Actually, it was the concept since the first Caper, people just kept setting plotlines and interdimensional mayhem up... and who am I to stop them?KAMics wrote:Well, that would be easier than all the stress & occasional frustration caused by getting caught up in storylines...Hogan wrote:Thats the concept you sign up for! Re: Halloween Cameo Caper 2010... where shall it be?
next chapter will be invisicat's if its on a spaceship I could attend, I have an abandoned spaceship planned that she will explore, nothing on the details but it will orbit the space of Questa yet Questa itself will not be there due to the spell that causes the history of Questa to travel back and forth through time, thus isolating the entire solar system. I do know that Alex, with Aden's help will send her there because it parked for no apparent reason and it makes Aden, who is still Xade's Protector despite not having an actual body, nervous. I dont know if anyone else will be physically with her though. Alex will probably be on communicator.
So, if you want it to be in Questa's space then that's fine ^_^. Note, strange things can happen even if Questa is not there due to the ambient magic.

Hmmm, hard to pick. Would love to see my characters in zoot suits... spaceship can be fun too, oooh, can be shapped like a pirate ship with space pirates and every other noun will have space infront of it. Load the space cannons and fair you scurvy space dogs! Hmmm, could Combine the under water with the spaceship and add some kind of treasure and a giant octapie for a really bad pun.
Though should see what else is suggested before settling.

well, my version is that it's a derelict ship that sends Invisicat (the chapter is dubbed Spaced Out Cat until I find a new name) back in time to save the people who died there. However, that's just the basic plot. I need time to expand it and see what my crazy mind can come up with. If we chose to have it there then anything could happen

Could have the party in a pyramid. Mummies, snakes, other creepy tomb-like stuff.

Re: Halloween Cameo Caper 2010... where shall it be?
It would actually be massively convenient for me if it could be a pyramid. (hey guys, sorry I didn't get to the discussion sooner ;D). My plan for October has my characters arriving at a newly-discovered pyramid (in or near Alexandria - I am aware there are no real pyramids there) where investigators have found what appears to be a sword lodged in a block of stone a la Arthurian legend. Some media organisation or other is to have organised a 'pull the sword out' contest which Mike needs to win because he needs the 'sword', and I need my gang to meet Dark Eyes at the event. I can manage without the cameo caper if it be the will of the majority, but I'd rather not if people like the pyramid setting idea.blkknight wrote:Could have the party in a pyramid. Well, no worries. If we aren't doing a pyramid, I'll just do a one-shot for the caper and keep the pyramid to myself.

Location really shouldn't dictate whether or not you participate. So you just have a non-cannon side-story.

I currently prefer to have my cameo capers within the story, that way the story isnt ruined. However, if, and this is a big if, I run all the way to halloween on overlook of life then I might have Alex visit for 2 or 3 updates. Of course I could always do the sudden teleportation in and out gag . . .

Re: Halloween Cameo Caper 2010... where shall it be?
Hmm.... this got me thinking and I've been meaning to ask this for some time...
How are the concept for the Capers presented? I've noticed that we each year get at least a couple of submissions where the comics end up not participating in the end. Off course, some have to drop out due to various issues, thats understandable, and most of those normally give notice, sometimes well in advance.
But what of those we never hear from, despite me giving email notice? Do they altogether forget they signed up or just don't care enough to sigh out again? Do they get overwhelmed by the planning taking place back and forth, thinking they HAVE to become a part of the crossovers to partake? Do they not notice that they can get away with just doing the 1 strip party-caper at Halloween, or running a none-crossover participation? Or do they think they just have to sign up, not do anything and get their characters in other strips?
I would like to hear back on this, especially from those who didn't participate during the previous Capers, despite signing up, in order to optimize the Caper writeup to make sure there are no mistakes and everybody knows what the Caper is all about.
I just want to make it easier for people

Well, personally, I was drawn in by the fact that the previous years HAD storylines weaving through them, so it didn't present the same attraction without a story. I mean, I knew that the sign-up was actually for the splash page, but that's not what I was looking for. Grokketh?
Also, though, I was reaching a point of critical business, so I don't think I probably could have really managed even the cameo page. I mean, you saw how bad I was with the Secret Santa, and that was with (some of) winter break to use! So...yeah.

Hey, nice to know that the chaos that is crossovers and random interactions do draw people in as much as they put them offlittlebeast wrote:Well, personally, I was drawn in by the fact that the previous years HAD storylines weaving through them, so it didn't present the same attraction without a story. ... and also good to know that you recognized the initial setup, just didn't choose to follow it
Don't think about it, you were one of those to sign out again before the Caper really started, which is the best you can do... real life DO come first after all, I think we all agree on that... I do, I often have too many things on my plate, and... well, you know about the SSlittlebeast wrote: Also, though, I was reaching a point of critical business, so I don't think I probably could have really managed even the cameo page. What I was wondering about, was those who signed up, then never participated, nor signed out...

Aaaand... a little delayed, the poll for choosing this year's setting for the Caper is up!
Remember, anyone can cast their vote, no matter if they plan on participating in the event or not, and the more who give their votes, the better! Poll will close at the end of May, giving people enough time to sign up and start planning before the event goes up.
Nobdoy has to sign up for anything yet...
How's this? Its it enough or too little time? Is one of the reasons some drop off because there are too much time between the signing up and the event take place? Shall we extend the poll to the end of June so there's only a 2 month sign-up and planning period? Let me hear your thoughts...

Heh, if this keeps up we'll have a 6-way tie.
