Halloween Cameo Caper 2009 - Where shall it be?

Post by Hogan »

2009 started about a month ago, and though some of the 2008-participants are still battling it out, I think it's proper time to start thinking about a new year's Cameo Caper!

Continuing the three year old tradition, we will once again try and get a multi-comic cameo caper running through out the month of October, culminating on Halloween Eve, hopefully creating one major comic-arc for the fun and entertainment of everybody reading and participating!

Now, to get down to the specifics... the Halloween Cameo Caper is an event centered on the 31th of October where characters from all interested comics (no kind, style or hosts bared) are invited to one hell of a party in a place this thread will help to decide. The original concept is still like it was in the previous years, at the date of Halloween (or the day closest to, taking updates schedules into accounting), all the participants post a strip (canon, none-canon, filler etc.) on their site or here in the forum, showing their characters and as many characters from other comics as possible, having fun and celebrating the event at the chosen place!

BUT... nothing can prevent any participant from setting up whole storylines centered on the event, and nothing can prevent the participating comics from joining up in crossovers with other comics for the sake of the event like it has been done before! Actually... its totally recommended and!

So far you don't have to sign up for anything, first we have to decide where to host the Caper of 2008!
The first year the Caper went to the town of Shelterville in the old Wild West, 2007 went Disneyland orbiting a faraway planet in the near future, and last year a "local" zombie-filled mall was thrashed...

Where shall it go this year? Its up to you!

The following is a suggested list of unused options taken from the polls of the previous years for places to host the party.

Ancient China
20's Chicago
Salvador Daliesk World
Earth's Core
The Middle Ages
Under the Sea
Haunted Castle
A Forumverse
The Austrian Alps

Anyone else who can think of a fantastic and interesting idea about where to host the Cameo Caper of 2009? This thread is for suggestions and discussions, and you don't have to even think about signing up for the Cameo Caper just yet, just feel free to take part in the discussion!

The discussion will come to an end at the 28th of February, after which a poll will be set up, featuring the hot topics of the thread for everyone to vote on the final result... but more on that later.

When the setting has been chosen, a more detailed campaign for the exact location will be provided... so therefore DO come up with various ideas while suggesting and voting... everything helps to make the setting as memorable as the previous ones!

Do NOT sign up for anything yet! Wait until the setting has been chosen and described, then you can sign up like crazy!

- Hogan

EDIT of 04.03.2009

Okay, a couple of days later than promised, its now time to take a look at the various suggestions, old as new, and make a vote as for where the Halloween Cameo Caper 2009 shall take place!

The Poll will run until the end of April, after which the winning choice will be set and a setting build up from the basic idea, and THEN the signing up and planning can begin!! As for now you can vote and argue without any binding... you don't even have to contemplate participating... yet!

For those who do not want to sign up in the forum in order to vote, its possible to "mail-vote" by mailing your choice to your's sincerely.
And again, the options for voting is for everyone, no matter if you consider participating or not...

Ready? On your marks... get set... vote!!

I'm going to abstain voting on a place.

I have a pretty strong feeling that PSI will not be involved in this.... A short stint if anything.

I would like to suggest that freighter worlds sister ship "Soul Seeker Be the setting. This giant star ship's goul is to steal magic from the universe and the peoples that control it. It will lure our hero's into its Depths There are Hydroponics farms science labs and lost souls in the shops and control center. I can provide the model of Friegther World so no drawing of the ship itself would be nessassary. We will free the ship of its evil influence. Have a party go home and the ship will go to the magical nexus after sending everyone home.

I still say the haunted castle is the best possible idea. It's very easy for anyone to write a creepy/haunted castle into their strip around Halloween, it's a classic Halloween setting, and it's also an excellent location for the inevitable after-show party. Down the years, I'm pretty sure a bunch of people have been put off by the fact that their characters would have to travel through space and time to get to the locations we've come up with.

So yeah, haunted castle!

I should stop reading this thread... because I may end up getting involved!

... ESPECIALLY if it's "Haunted Castle" o_O

I can see myself now... I'm standing outside of the castle grounds. The PSI crew is there, and I'm trying to convince them to check it out and that it would be a fun adventure!

They pause and look at each other.

"You're trying to get us in another big crossover things again, aren't you?"

"um..."

"No thanks. Bye."

They walk away and I'm sad :P

My main comic is already set in the middle ages, so that one's out for me.

You could do that as a one-shot Halloween joke and it would be awesome

Haunted Castle sounds good to me, either in modern realistic or classical fantasy settings... my comic's "real" world coexists with a fairly substantial fantasy world, so I can get to either fairly quickly. Then again, by AoD universe logic, there's nothing that would really stop my characters from simply showing up whereever, so location is moot.

Even if your comic is set in "Castle-Ages" that does not mean that there isn't a Haunted Castle somewhere. :P

Alternatively, the modern-day haunting could be carried out by the ghosts of characters from medieval-period comics?

Just throwing it out there, though I'll admit it leans towards the creation of another really complicated event...

Scrap that - the Middle Ages are a period in cultural history that spanned a thousand years and a whole land mass. They can do the time travel thing within that span and get culture-shocked all they want.

We could split the difference and do a haunted spaceship castle.

Actually happened back in 2007... Disneyland got as many votes as Outer Space, so we ended up with Disneyland in Space

My comic has only recently gotten its own site, but I have 25 pages already made, and by Halloween I will expect to double that, at least.

I understand that for some comics, there is a problem of continuity, but I don't think that's the spirit of these Halloween strips. Each comic can do their own "canon" storyline for Halloween if they like. The purpose of this crossover event is to swap characters with other comics. It's a bonus if you can write it into your regular plot, but it's not a requirement.

Anyone who wants to participate can write whatever sort of explanation they want for the event -It doesn't have to be part of the plot.

That being said, I like Wheels idea of a haunted freighter. It's unique. A "haunted castle" is generic enough to work for other comics plot wise, but I think we can do away with that if you consider what I said above. I think that instead, we need to do something exciting, something that preferably hasn't been done before. So I vote for the haunted Freighter.

I vote for a space station, plenty of fun to be had there...unless it's been done too many times. Course with magic comics on a space station that could prove interesting the way the characters react...

This is just me pointing out that this is the last day to come up with suggestion... tomorrow, on the 1st of March, as soon as I get the time, I'll set up the poll with the suggestions having come up so far, and then... it's voting time!!

Just to restate my position, I support the haunted freighter idea.
