Do we need a warning?

While adding cameos and references to, among others, Ghastly's Ghastly Comic, it suddenly struck me that it might be necessary to put up a warning about adult content in some of the linked strips in the Archive, just so as we (I) don't get in trouble when little Johnny-Five-Year follows a cameo-thread through several PG-comics, and suddenly ends up in things like Ghastly.

Now, would it be enough with a general warning in the front/main page, or should the warning be added to all entries?

I would prefer the first option since the latter would require me to change all pages, but what do you think? Anyone having experience with this kind of action?

A general warning that some of the linked comics have adult material would be good, but I think putting a warning on the actual links would be clearer. (So I recommend both.)

BTW if your donation button leads to Paypal you might want to move it since, IIRC, part of their terms of service lists links to adult sites as a violation.

Okay, I got something up now...

If you look at the entries for either H. Morgan Art or Ghastly's Ghastly Comic you will see a MA content warning below the site's logo acting, the logo that act's as a direct link to the site's main page. :P

If you check out Megatokyo, you will notice a smaller MA just next to the link pointing to the cameo-page in Ghastly's.

So far I'm of the opinion that these should justify as fair warnings, but what do you think?

I'm thinking of adding the small strip-specific link to all links that points to a site with MA-content, even if the specific strip is clean as snow, you never know when somebody decides to go a step further...

I'll probably put up a general small-type warning on the front-page one of these days when I manage to put something together...

Notify me if you think there's sites there need the MA-warning. All decisions will in the end be up to me though, and will be based on my opinions!

And I think I can keep the paypal button for now, since its not that the site directly links to porn... we got something like 3 comics with smut-content so far out of almost 300 comics!
We'll wait and see, but you never know, the paypal might actually be used someday... :)

H. Morgan Art??? Do you mean M.Organ Art?

Should work, unless there are some people who don't know what MA stands for.

Evil Wenches, Inc. lists itself as an Adult site on Drunk Duck, although I think that's just for language. Iffy.

Burgundy Comics, Inc. has had nudity on past pages, so probably should get one.

You don't have Sexy Losers up yet, but it does have links to Sunday Morning Coffee & Ghastly's Ghastly Comic & it's definitely adults only.

Explotation Now should probably have one as well.

Strange Candy had one strip where we see a naked woman & there are plenty of references to hentai. Not sure if it should have one or not.

Oh, Jack is definitely MA.

David's Oekaki Artworks, yep.

Pinky TA is in the adult section of Drunk Duck, so maybe. (We do see Pinky's ass in a sex dream sequence.)

Purple Pussy... what little I remember about it... probably.

Could be... could be..

And the suggestions for MA-membership are some pretty good ones. Jack is already added, the rest will follow!

Why don't you just lock this thread as it's become nothing but a Spam-magnet & the question was answered a long time ago anyway?

I recommend disabling Guests to be able to post Replies.

(Locking this thread would only make the bots reply in the next thread, wouldn't it?)

I'm not sure how the spambots decide which threads they're going to pollute.

Still this thread has been the subject of a few spam attacks so closing it would seem to be a good idea.

That's easy.
If it has an input field, it will be spammed.

Any variation in which threads do or don't get spammed is almost entirely due to chance. Though some bots may specifically look for forums that haven't had any posts in a number of months, on the off chance that they may be abandoned.

Actually, recent instances of that on the Talkaboutcomics forums seem to have been done by live human beings.

Anyway, like I said in another forum, make me an admin and I'll sweep out the spam and tighten up the permissions - preserving the ability of guests to post on the Crossover Reports tread.

seriously, i think you need tighter user controls here, i know you folks like to keep guest posting on for people to report cameos, but you've got folks royally abusing that privilege

I HAVE slowly been tighthening security as I deemed it necessary, the option for guests to make new threads were removed from all the forums not so long ago, and I've slowly been deactivating guest-posting as a whole. The recent flood of spam in this thread made me run through all the forums and diasble the guest-posting as a whole...

Two forums will be the exception to that, namely:

Where the worlds come together
Halloween Cameo Caper 2007

These are the forums that, by their intended nature, needs the option for guest-posting for people not wanting to sign up just to report a cameo or participate in the Caper. We just need to strike fast and hard the spam that DO show up in these threads...

Signing up for a profile has also been upgraded to the level where you need an confirmation by email to access... though theres still automatic spambots that knows their way around this...

This SHOULD take care of the worst of the spams, though not everything... I think that will never be possible... :?

Right, I'll get to the PM! I think I'll avoid IRC today, I don't think my mind can keep up with "real-time" conversation...

Oh, and I've found out the source of my illness... its stressrelated, so I just need to take it easy with everything I'm doing...
