Catnap is still being finished.

I promise, Catnap's ending is coming. It is being drawn by someone else as per the last script I wrote. So far it is 1 page, and I estimate it being 8 at the most.

Hopefully some gaps for cameo comic will be filled before then

Yea, for those I told Max had several strips missing between PSI and when he showed up again in the EOU comic... yea, nix that.

I have one strip left with him in PSI I need to finish.

Status?

Last I saw of him, he was moving The Editor's body.

And since The Editor didn't die, chances are Catnap is still out there somewhere. With his powers, as well as a demonstrated ability to put a comic on hiatus and still get out of said comic, well, he's not someone to take lightly.

Hmm.. Maybe The Editor did make him human, safely, before heading to Mindmistress. Then ... anyone new might be a disguised Catnap.

Thats more or less still his status... :)

But lets state that I know something... the question is just whether this is a moot point by now or not... :|

Ohh, something I just thought of.

Given his Hiatus-inducing and controlling abilities, the best -- and safest -- place for him to hide out in is a comic on hiatus. He -- and anyone with him -- could rebuild, with even less chance of being spotted than hanging out in the forbidden zone.

With no sign of trouble until they either "unhiatus" or just leave in a fresh crossover, striking from nowhere.

Heck, with his own past in the now defunct Krayon Kitty Klub, he could just rebuild in there, where as far as I can tell, he pretty much has the ability to do whatever he wants.

Wonder who else hates authors, and wants to help him out?

Hmm ... No, Hogan doesn't hate authors, just "Too Many Crossovers". (oh no ... "Too Many Cameos -- The Webcomic. Make it sprite-based, and just stamp it out ...)

Yes, I do think he's my favorite badguy from the story.

Mort had told me that Max Catnap is done. Nothing more than what exists will be done. No one can use the character either. He doesn't want him being used for anything.

Unless he comes back and says otherwise, that's what's happened.

I'm out of the loop on this one. Could someone answer me why the subject of Catnap has been brought up again after three years?

Thanks for taking interest in the character, Keybounce. I appreciate the thought.

Sadly, as I've stated before Max is pretty much done and there's no reason to continue it, even after three years. There was eight pages being written and drawn for him, but at the time the artist who picked up the comic, loving the character, withdrew from drawing it after three pages (of which I don't have access to at the moment. Maybe in a few weeks I can see if I still have it around). I didn't personally want to touch it since the comic moved on anyway. Either way, if was never retro-shoved in since it was never finished.

This is my take on what happened: His disappearance leaves an open question only to ask what became of him. If you wanted to figure what happened, you'll have to understand his fatal flaw that Catnap has. His ability to null the effects of other people's powers may make him OP in some light but at the same time that is his Achilles's heel. He can't have things happen to him that would change his outward appearance without nullifying the effects. No trans-species changing guns would get past him, no gimmicky who-ze-whatsits that could logically work in the comic could help him, and with ability to stop webcomic artists in their tracks he probably couldn't be helped.

Any promise that the Editor made to Catnap was most likely either a lie or the Editor did take into account that Catnap's null powers could override the Editor's own. The moment the he rescue's the editor and wanders from the battle, he disappears from sight. If you recall, Catnap has the ability to recognize the fourth wall and know he's in a comic. He probably avoided being drawn any further to help the Editor. There would have been an exchange between the two most likely in secret. The Editor may have been reluctant to Catnap about saving him, told him about the fatal flaw of his character, and Catnap took it and left. Without the Editor to help him, there was no reason to stay in the war anymore, and thus left. I see it that ventured off to find a solution to his problem, one that would not result in him having to surrender his powers and be just a character again, roaming the vast infinite space of the internet for eternity.

Of course this is probably open to interpretation still. That was my take, the 3 of 8 page comic had a different ending in mind, and you do as well. All are acceptable choices.

So even if he had gotten the transformation amulet intact, it would not have worked.
He can't turn off the "nullify" ability.

Couldn't an author or artist simply draw him differently, or does he even nullify any attempt to be redrawn? If that's the case, than that's a pretty strong power.

Dang. Someone with that level of power, and the personality flaws that keep it from being a useful tool. If he ever wanted something other than becoming human in appearance -- if he ever reached the point of forgiving the artist that failed to draw that other cat (he complained at one point about another character that simply wasn't drawn, effectively killing them), then just imagine what he could do.

As I said: Hero of his own story, great psychological limitations and character flaws. Not a one-dimensional creature, even if he does have a single overwhelming goal.

Wait, was Catnap even immune to a creator re-drawing him? (erase and redrawn, etc) If he allowed? Like with a real pencil? ... In theory?

I remember we talked A LOT about things like that. Though I know it came down to Max likely never being able to trust a Creator.

The problem is that nothing ever -really- ends. A hundred years from now, others might find the stories you've left behind, breathe new life into them, and twist them in a direction you more than likely neither wanted, or could believe.

Both of you missed what was important about my "ending". Let me highlight that for you.

The Mortician wrote:This is my take on what happened. Of course this is open to interpretation still.

My take, my perception of what events were to be. I don't have an ending for him. At the time, after the artist fallout from someone else's attempt to give him an ending, I wasn't too interested in giving him another one either, but since there is a demand to it, I am willing to hear one out. I don't also have the enthusiasm to draw one, what without having a computer either.

Not exactly 100 years. The current stand on usage of another's character is, as I remember it, the rest of the life of the author plus 100 years. So you'll have to wait some time.

Though, I think the argument is a moot point. 100 years from now for something that is not printed in books, worldwide, isn't going to be remembered.

I know I kinda once had a plan to take Catnap into PSI, though what I originally proposed was too far against his character.

1) I thought it was 75 years?

2a) Archive.org

2b) I have enough ties to the Crossover Wars that I'll have a huge stack of art and folders with those strips in them that someone will dig it out :P

2c) remember that humans have a habit of finding and collecting old things.

It's amazing how quickly the differences between the two are evaporating. Now if I could just get everything else to...
